The Spanish industry of natural stone wondered why since the central government, regional or local is having so little sensitivity to other sectors outside the banking or automotive industry, in the management of the economic crisis that is facing the rest of the industry and the Spanish society. In Spain about 90% of the economy is sustained by small business and independent professional people, and the sector of natural stones, mostly is part of this segment. Until mid-2008 this sector had more than 3,000 companies that provided direct employment to about 30,000 workers. At mai of 2009 all of them are at risk.

In this situation, from the Spanish Federation of Natural Stone and from their associations, has asked the government greater sensitivity for all sectors of activity and an explanation of why the Spanish natural stone industry is ignored of all competitions and projects that are promoting of goverment agencies such as the Ministry of Development (AENA), Councils of Autonomous Communities and Town Councils of major cities.

The response required by the "FDP" to this attitude of these governamental agencies has been so scarce and sometimes inconsistent so that this sector is going to plan more forceful actions to demand the attention of the authorities and obtain a response commensurate with the demands.
