The single family residence CaAH is located on a consolidated urban land in the municipality of La Lastrilla, in the urban development known as "El Sotillo," located on the outskirts of the city of Segovia. The project, bearing the signature of architect Carlos Olmos de Frutos from OCO Urban Complex, studio of Architecture and Town Planning, has been carried out with a budget of €322,000 and has an area of 535,69 m2.

The building covers 30% of the building lot. Therefore, the second floor is recessed, allowing for a terrace and hence increasing the lack of free space on the lot. This L-shape opens the residence to the south as well as to the mountain views of Segovia.

The residence is located like in isolation with respect to those of the environment, requiring a minimum of 2 and 3 m recess. The front of the plot has been configured by means of a steel and stone granite structure-fence that encloses the main utility connections cabinet as well as the doors for pedestrian and vehicles entry. This front is the base for the second floor of the residence that looks out over the structure, through a great square open space that provides light and views to the house’s library.

Spatially, the residence is a reflection of the volume to its interior. A double height on the stairs helps configure each space internally and functionally, while helping to introduce light to the darker spaces close to the north facade. The idea of interior visual order has been kept in mind as a way to create a spatial order that gives a feeling of prolonged visual amplitude with the view of the patio and solarium.

For the construction of the residence, a connection with local materials has been established, adapting them to the spatial and formal ideas of the project, as well as a fast execution on site.

Characteristics

The facade of the residence is a ventilated construction in gray granite pieces of 60x40x3 cm, secured with four stainless steel anchorages of 8 mm of diameter per piece.

The open spaces have been mastered by means of lift & slide window/doors, with thermally insulated profile system, tubular frame of 110 mm base (double track) or 167 mm (3 rails), and perimeter aired tubular leaf of 43 mm...

The solar protection is carried out by means of varnished ipe wood shutters on stainless steel frames and Klein hardware, defined for their weight and opening. Ipe wood has some exceptional characteristics to resist the elements. It does not need special treatment to be placed oudoors.
