A multi-disciplinary team made up of technicians from Aena and the Arkitools, S.L. studio has been in charge of carrying

the conception and design of the Almería airport expansion project forward. In the project, natural stone has been employed, fundamentally on the interior floors of the terminal building.

In general, marbles of the Almería region were used, mainly white Macael marble. The team indicated that they chose this group of materials for its simplicity and ease of installation, price, and ready supply of materials. The presence of the stone and its color harmonize and emphasize the spatial conception of the terminal building. According to the multi-disciplinary team, the criteria for the selection of materials were defined to create functional and comfortable spaces for the building's patrons.

Likewise, the professionals assured us that there were no difficulties in using this material during construction, and that the installation was carried out according to the existing plans. Finally, the work team has emphasized the best qualities of natural stone: its “durability and the low maintenance cost.” For the same reason, due to its natural characteristics of beauty and strength, they believe that stone is a highly suitable element for use in busy areas. In addition, they assure us that the material provides good long-term results, for which reason the quality/price ratio is considered balanced.
